• Individual Therapy

Together, we may realize that your child needs some individual therapeutic attention. Individually, I can offer play therapy, talk therapy, artistic therapeutic exercises, mindfulness-based practices, or a combination, depending on your child’s specific goals.

In addition to what we accomplish in individual therapy, I can offer the following:

-Weekly check-ins on your child’s progress

-Offering strategies to implement as your child’s caregiver to compliment our individual work

-Collaboration with your child’s doctors, teachers, or other important providers and caregivers.

-Advocating for your child through attending any important meetings with their schools or other providers

-Ensuring that we still have regular family therapy so that we can find ways to maximize progress at home

  • Family Therapy

Family therapy will be provided in conjunction with your child’s individual therapy. It may also be provided in the form of PCIT (Parent-Child Interaction Therapy) or PCIT-SM (PCIT for Selective Mutism). PCIT is a gold-standard treatment for young children with behavioral concerns, trauma, or specific anxieties such as Selective Mutism or Separation Anxiety.

In family therapy, I work together with you by:

-Reviewing progress in every session and regularly updating our treatment plan together

-Remaining objective; in family therapy, I don’t take sides, because my goal is to help the entire family unit

-Working with the entire family in real time to improve communication and relationship dynamics.

-Coordinating with extended family members, schools, and other medical providers if desired

-Collaboration on recommendations and exercises to practice in between sessions, to maximize progress

There’s no way around it; therapy is an investment. It’s an investment of your time, mental energy, emotional energy, and often finances as well. The cost of therapy can sometimes surprise people and can understandably cause hesitation for new clients. However, it is an investment in the future for a better quality of life for your family and your child. The cost of therapy is ultimately a short-term investment for a long-term payoff.

“Do you accept insurance?”

At this time, I do not participate with any insurance panels. This allows me to be a more effective therapist to you. Unfortunately, insurance companies often engage in harmful business practices that negatively impact mental health treatment, such as setting restrictions on sessions that contradict medical recommendations and evidence-based practices, reducing the client’s autonomy and privacy in therapy, and requiring a diagnosis from the first session, even if it is unnecessary or unhelpful.

Being free to work without limitations set by insurance companies means that we are able to truly customize therapy to meet your specific needs, and I am more able to provide higher quality care.

Even though I do not accept insurance, I am happy to provide you with a Superbill to file out-of-network claims. When you submit a Superbill to insurance, they will often reimburse you for the cost of therapy.

*
*Superbills may require a diagnosis and can mean less privacy for the client, so this is up to your comfort level. We can discuss possible pros and cons in our session together, if desired.

If you wish to use Superbills for out-of-network claims, I strongly recommend checking with your insurance company to determine if they reimburse for out-of-network sessions. Even if they don’t, they will usually allow you to apply the session expenses towards your deductible, which can be very helpful. Clients may also pay for the cost of sessions using their Health Savings and Flexible Spending accounts (HSA and FSA cards). In the next section, I have written out questions that are helpful to ask when you call the number on the back of your insurance card.

As a non-paneled provider, I can not work directly with your health insurance company, but I will do my best to provide everything you need if you are submitting out-of-network claims.

You might also be able to deduct therapy expenses from your taxes as an out-of-pocket expense, which can save you money on your tax filings. Check with your CPA first to be certain.

Questions to ask your insurance about out-of-network benefits can include the following:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health or behavioral health coverage?

  • Does my plan reimburse for services by a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)?

  • Is a diagnosis required for reimbursement?

  • At what rate will I be reimbursed? (ex: 40%,60%, 80%)

    • If they ask for CPT codes, the following are the most common:

      • 90791- Initial Intake Appointment

      • 90847- Family Therapy, 50 minutes

      • 90837- Individual Therapy, 50 minutes

      • 90846- Family therapy without client present, 50 minutes

  • Is there an annual limit on the number of sessions or the total amount that is reimbursable?

  • Does my plan reimburse for telehealth (video) psychotherapy services?

  • What is the process for getting reimbursed?

  • Do I need to meet an out-of-network deductible? How much is it?
